INFORMAL LABORATORY
Among the first experiences developed within the ICDS framework is Maria Fierro's thesis on the ācampo-romā in Scampia and the work carried out in two different contexts: the Vasto area in Naples and the Domiziana area. During the latter experience, a strategy for 'decompressing' areas at high risk of social conflict in the multi-ethnic city was devised. This experience was divided into two parts: the first involved a group of students, guided by ICDS professors, participating in the i-Rec ā Oeuvre durable student competition, 9th student competition ā IATROGENESIS. Disrupting the status quo: Resisting disaster risk creation, 2019. The project presented for the Vasto area won the competition. The second part of the experience consisted of theses developed based on the strategy devised for the competition. Subsequently, the group of professors and researchers from ICDS developed some experiments within the Laboratory derived from their participation in the European research PUSH_Public Space in Social Housing and the Laboratory. Among the activities of ICDS is the work carried out within the Laboratories for the Co.De Social Habitat project, developed in the academic year 2021-2022 with the community of Scugnizzo Liberato and in the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 with the Dedalus association in the Piazza Garibaldi area in Naples. ICDS has also organized several international workshops, including one developed with Professor Sanchez Merina from the University of Alicante, which resulted in the "Illustrated Catalog of Neapolitan Ingenuity" created by students Stefania Alberico, Martina Arcidiacono, and Valentina Senese, and the "Intensive Workshop on the Informal City" developed in collaboration with Professors Maria Hadjisoteriou, Alessandra Swiny, and Teresa Tourvas from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, with second-year Co.DE students and 23 students from Nicosia. It is an open laboratory that is continuously updated, and the results are presented on this page.
